I've literally been trying for years, and have been hesitant to buy the CDs out of fear of getting one with terrible sound quality. Dr. Fu Man Chu hat gesagt…: I made the transfers a long time ago from the original LP and a tape that a member of the band had given me long before CDs were available. Incidentally, there is only this one vinyl LP, the other recordings were made for SWF Rundfunk and only appeared on CD much later. By the way, the title “Das ist das beste Müsli” is based on misheard lyrics in the song “Das Fest des Wüstlings” and was jokingly called that by everyone involved.; 3. November 2024 um 04:57

Anonym hat gesagt…: I just bought a CD of SWF Sessions 1973 for a reasonable $26, it appears to be available on vinyl as well. Very cool about getting the music from a band member. Crack in the Cosmic Egg had this to say about their music's limited availability: "These albums seem to be destined to obscurity, however, as guitarist Manfred Herter, aka Manni Holländer who released a few pop albums in the 1980's, apparently refuses a reissue." I don't know why, his shredding was quite good on the tracks you compiled. Just curious, was he the band member who gave you the tape?; 4. November 2024 um 01:05
Dr. Fu Man Chu hat gesagt…: I don't want to be rude, but I can't tell you the whole story, firstly because it's too long and secondly because I promised not to reveal anything because of various disputes between band members. But it wasn't Manfred Herten who gave me the tapes. And I can tell you that there is a lot of blather about Tortilla Flat that has no substance. However, there is one interesting thing that I have never read about. Some of the musicians previously played in a band called “NICHTS” (German for NOTHING), which had a pretty rough so-called underground sound. Too bad that there are apparently no recordings of it.; 5. November 2024 um 23:46
Anonym hat gesagt…: Just wanted to add that your tape appears to be the same cassette they sent to Südwestfunk 3 in order to get their radio gig on 20.12.1973. The tracks are exactly the same as those on the Long Hair "SWF Sessions 1973" CD but it's exciting that they are different takes, very good quality for demo recordings. Thanks for all your Krautrock posts, obviously your musical tastes range wider (as do mine) but as an American musician & collector this has been a special area of interest for me for some time. Additionally I was surprised to learn that until recently, WDR sold their vintage recordings online, including some never issued in physical media (I missed that opportunity but wonder who out there might have what audio treasures).
