"Fanfare for the Warriors" is one of my favorite jazz albums of all time, but without the cohesive effect of jazz educator and vastly underrated pianist Muhal Richard Abrams who to my knowledge only appeared on that one album, the Art Ensemble were never quite as compelling or interesting to my ears ( more fragmented is the term that comes to mind) . As soloists they're all great but Abrams was the glue that held them together on that album. I guess that's what happens when one's first experience with an artist's work is their pinnacle. Thanks for your fine jazz selections.
